Board of Directors

This school is an inspiration of the Holy Spirit which encouraged many of our board members to envision a school for women which could be rich in the Catholic faith and uphold the teachings of St. John Paul II by educating young women in their feminine genius.

A special thank you to the Dominican Sisters, Mary Mother of the Eucharist, for working with the Board in the design of this school and inspiring us with our patroness, St. Catherine of Siena, a great Dominican saint.

About Our President

A letter from our Board Chairman:

With great pleasure, the Board of Directors of St. Catherine of Siena Academy announces the hiring of our new President, Mr. Jeff Barron. Mr. Barron comes to us with over 30 years of experience in sales, marketing and management and is eager to use his gifts to advance the mission of SCA. Previously, Mr. Barron has been the President of DINSE Inc. and the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Barron Industries. Mr. Barron’s passion for the Catholic faith and eagerness to assist the Church in her mission of evangelization drew him to our door. Throughout the interview process, he expressed his respect for the work we are doing in education, especially in our faithfulness to our Catholic identity, and his desire to be a part of it. In all that we do, we strive for this to be true and know our leadership is critical to ensuring it.

Leaving the corporate world to be in the school environment, Mr. Barron is excited to assume an active role in the community, cultivating relationships with faculty, staff, students, parents, and our many benefactors to implement the school’s strategic plan, direct the development program, oversee school finances, and work with the staff. He is particularly excited to work in partnership with our principal Karen Ervin to preserve our deep convictions of faith, enriching educational programs and to safeguard the future of SCA. They will make an exceptional team!

The Board along with staff and faculty have been engaged for the past year in this hiring process to find the candidate who could both lead the school and ensure the legacy of our mission, to educate young women in their feminine genius. Mr. Barron has these qualities and we are confident his expertise and talents will advance the school, furthering the rich tradition begun here for a faith-filled Catholic education and Christian community. Personally, Jeff and his wife Peggy have been blessed with five daughters of their own and have a lived understanding of the necessity for raising young women up in the faith. Their youngest daughter Brigid is a sophomore here at SCA.

Monday, April 9, 2018 will be Mr. Barron’s first day. Please give him a warm welcome during these days of transition to his new position and remember him in your prayers. We look forward to the days ahead and can’t wait to see what God has in store for the future of SCA under this new leadership! May Jesus be the guiding hand and grace in all that we do! Go Stars!

Sincerely,

Kevin Ford
Chair, SCA Board of Directors

Mr. Barron was recently interviewed by Paul Stuligross from The Michigan Catholic. Click the link below to learn more about Barron’s past experience and his ideas on how to highlight our young women’s Feminine Genius!

St. Catherine’s new president seeks to highlight ‘feminine genius’

“I was among one of the very first classes SCA ever had. As a pioneer and a student to be a part of the foundation of clubs and classes that continue today, I am beyond proud of how far the school has come. There were many ups and downs during my four years but an amazing experience overall. Today at college I still look back on and cherish my times at SCA, thankful for the connections, education and sisterhood I acquired. I am looking forward to seeing many more young women carry on the traditions my class and recent classes have set for the future.”

Alumna, Class of '14

“This school is not only college prep, it is life prep. I know that my daughter is being educated to go out and make a positive difference in the world. She will graduate with the confidence and courage to lead wherever she goes in life. I love the principal, the teachers, and the families. It is such a blessing to be a part of the SCA Family. I know the friends my daughter has made will be her sisters for life.”

SCA Parent

“The school lives up to their mission statement by unlocking the feminine genius in the girls who go there and providing us with the opportunity to discover who we are meant to be.”

“This high school experience is like none other you can get anywhere. There is joy and comradery and the girls are happy and excel. They are being supported and encouraged by staff. You can watch a girl come in who had a bad experience elsewhere, bloom here and become a different girl in a short time. Can’t say enough good about it. Thank God the founders had this vision and followed through with it. Well needed and we are very thankful!”

SCA Parent

“My first day of freshman year was something I never expected, Saint Catherines just felt like home. The atmosphere, staff, and the student body were all so amazing. I knew from the second I came to the school that it was where I was meant to be. I am currently a senior and my experience so far has been one too remember I have grown mentally, physically, spiritually and my journey has been one to remember. I love Saint Catherine of Siena and all the girls I have met are truly going to be my sisters throughout my life, its an amazing school and is a place I will call home forever.”

Alumna, Class of '18

“SCA is authentically and unapologetically Catholic. It’s excellence in academics and athletics is rooted in its mission to pass on the beauty of the Catholic faith in a way that is relevant to the modern world. The result is a constant focus on the character and virtue of its students, challenging them to be the best version of themselves not just academically, but spiritually as well.”

SCA Parent

“This place (SCA) is about the best Catholic high school you can go to, in my opinion. The whole school isn’t just a school, but a family where everybody knows everybody. It’s a small enough school for that to be possible-and it’s really awesome! What makes SCA different is the people that make up the SCA family. There are no bullies and no one is mean to you. Everybody looks out for you and your teachers become friends….This place is really close to my heart.”

Alumna, Class of '12

“Another thing I enjoyed about the school was the athletics. I played four different sports at this school and I had the same experience with all of them. The coaches really cared about me, not just how well I was performing and I was treated respectfully on and off the court. Further more, I felt that I was really being pushed physically and mentally during practice which I value in any activity.”

Alumna

“Karen Ervin is a remarkable principal! She is a good administrator, but even more importantly, she is an excellent role model for the students. She is strong, confident, and a woman of tremendous virtue. She is unafraid and doing everything in her power to raise strong, Catholic women who will go out and ‘set the world ablaze’!”

SCA Parent

“This high school builds the whole young woman intellectually, spiritually, and teaches the feminine genius approach to life. Amen!”
