An Epiphany School Blessing

Chalking the Doors, 2022: An Epiphany Blessing

The letters, C, M, B have two meanings.

  • They are the initials of the traditional names of the three magi: Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar.
  • They also abbreviate the Latin words Christus mansionem benedicat, “May Christ bless this house.”

The “+” signs represent the cross and the 2022 is the year.

The chalk used was blessed using the prayers from the traditional Latin Roman Ritual.

On the Feast of the Epiphany we ask for God’s blessing on St. Catherine of Siena Academy, on those who teach here, learn here, or visit our school. This year we chalked the doors at four different entrances as an invitation to Jesus to be a daily guest in our school, our comings and goings, our conversations, our studying, work, and play, our joys and sorrows.

Let us Pray:
Lord God of heaven and earth,
you revealed your only-begotten Son to every nation by the guidance of a star.
Bless our school and all those who inhabit it.
Fill us with the light of Christ, that our concern for others may reflect your love. May we be blessed with health, kindness of heart, and gentleness.
Fill us with the light of Christ that our love for each other may go out to all. We ask this and all things through Christ our Lord. Amen
