SCA Teaching Garden
While our students and teachers were hard at work adjusting to online school, one of our students was also working on her Eagle Scout Project. She decided that she wanted to build a community garden for our school to enrich the science curriculum in Ms. Layden and Ms. Lucia’s life science classes, specifically in their biology and environmental science classes. An added benefit of the project is to provide fresh ingredients for Mrs.Green to use when making our delicious school lunches. Let’s hear more about this project from the Eagle Scout herself:
“The scope of this project is to build and prepare a teaching garden for St. Catherine of Siena Academy for educational purposes beginning fall 2020. This will include a compost station, (4) raised garden beds for vegetables, in-ground garden beds for fruiting shrubs, herbs and flowering plants for pollination, a dedicated teaching area and a perimeter fence. This garden will be located on the southwest corner of the building, adjacent to the teacher entrance.”
-Nadia Zawinsky (SCA Class of 2023)
Nadia has been planning this project over the past few months and is ready to begin the building phase of her project. However, to begin building the SCA Teaching Garden, she needs your help! We are in need of donations. Donations can be made in the form of gardening supplies (such as shovels, trowels, watering cans, etc.), plants/seeds, or can collections. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and limitations, donations will be picked up directly from your home. If you would like to make a donation, please text Nadia at 248-410-7652 to schedule a pick-up time. Nadia will be available from July 24th-31st to pick up your generous donations. Thank you in advance for your contribution to our school community and SCA’s science program.
PLANT DONATIONS NEEDED: If you are able to provide a plant to donate to our garden, please bring a trowel and a pair of gloves so you can add it to our school community. All donations are greatly appreciated.
