COVID-19 Tips from Nurse Mason #3

COVID-19 Tips & Updates from Nurse Mason

September 29, 2020

Did you know that you can see the number of positive COVID cases by zip code?

The Oakland County Health Department (OCHD) updated their signs and symptoms on 9/18/20 to be a little more detailed in what we should be looking for.  Remember if you are experiencing any of these STAY HOME – DO NOT come to school….or any other public place.

  • Fever (100.4 degrees or greater), chills, sore throat, headache, cough, muscle and body aches, diarrhea (2x in 24 hours), extreme fatigue, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell, nausea and vomiting (2x in 24 hours), congestion or runny nose that are unrelated to known pre-existing conditions (ie asthma, allergies).

  • The CDC also updated the most common symptom in children.

  • The most common is no symptoms at all, but after that fever and cough have been found to be the most common things kids experience when positive for COVID-19.

  • This is why wearing a mask that is effective as well as over your nose and mouth is important.  If you cough and spread the droplets out around you, you are putting other people at risk!!

Caroline is an Oakland County Health Department nurse assigned to Saint Catherine to assist with our transition back to learning this fall. She earned her BSN at the University of Cincinnati and her Masters in Education at Xavier University. She has 11 years of clinical experience as an RN at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Center. While at CCHMC she worked on the Neurology Unit caring for children with many different medical diagnoses including brain tumor resections, chronic migraines and seizure disorders. Since moving to Michigan, Caroline has been a stay at home mom with her three children. She has two boys in high school and a daughter in middle school. In her free time, she can usually be found watching a soccer game or cross country meet. Her family also enjoys hiking, biking and camping together. Caroline is looking forward to working with Saint Catherine this fall!
