2020 Bishop John M. Quinn Secondary Teacher of the Year Recipient
June 2, 2020
Last night, Barbara Kirwan was virtually honored with the Excellence in Teaching award. She received the 2020 Bishop John M. Quinn Secondary Teacher of the year.
Barb has been a member of the faculty since the school opened 10 years ago. She began as the school’s only theology teacher and currently teaches Philosophy (a graduation requirement) and Sacred Scripture and Art (a senior theology elective) in a department of four faculty members.
Barb was nominated by her colleagues for a number of reasons. She has been a steadfast member of the community since the school opened her doors. She is easy to work with and is open to new ideas, is flexible, and an incredible colleague. She does so much for her students and for the school. She not only teaches theology but instills in young women a love for their Catholic faith. According to a former student, “she is an incredible role model and always encouraged her students to strive to be the best version of themselves.” Students and alumni say that hers is a room where they like to stop by, to see her bright personality and smiling face, and she is sought after for advice.
Congratulations, Barb! SCA is very proud of you and your commitment to our community.
Please watch the AOD video. Mrs. Kirwan is recognized at the end of the high school teacher honorees.
