Welcome to St. Catherine of Siena Academy!
As principal of St. Catherine of Siena Academy, I would like to welcome you and invite you to browse our website to gain a better understanding of the mission and vision of this Academy.
In 2004, a seed of faith and a vibrant vision was born in the hearts of a small group of committed individuals, and seven years later on September 6, 2011, the doors to our beautiful facility were opened to a group of 49 freshmen and sophomore students. With great excitement and expectation, the Board of Directors, the staff, the students and their parents began a journey of witness to the prophetic words of Pope John Paul II, inviting all to participate in the New Evangelization: “Do not be afraid! Open, indeed, open wide the doors to Christ!” By opening wide the doors to Christ and by following both the teachings of this beloved Pope specific to women and the example of our Patron, St. Catherine of Siena (a woman who knew her identity in Christ and lived it with fervor), we take special note of the lives of young women, their dignity, their uniqueness, and their special purpose in the plan of God for their life, and for the world in which they live. In the midst of a culture saturated with a disrespect and disregard for this dignity, St. Catherine of Siena Academy strives to create an atmosphere of vibrant Catholic faith and rigorous college preparatory academics.
Our school day begins with homeroom, followed by energetic Christian worship music to encourage their hearts as they gather for whole-school prayer. Students then move on to their morning class schedule. Each class period is 45 minutes long. At 10:45 each day the entire school gathers in the Chapel to celebrate Mass before lunch. After lunch, students resume with afternoon classes. For many, the day ends with time in our state of the art media center to do homework, study for a test, or visit with friends while waiting for their ride home. Many of our students also participate in after school activities such as seasonal athletics, clubs, or special projects or events.
St. Catherine of Siena Academy provides a secure setting for each student to pursue her gifts, talents, and a variety of leadership opportunities. This single-sex setting allows us the freedom to delve into the issues, concerns, challenges, and strengths that come with being a woman. From theology class to the gymnasium we work to nurture the “Feminine Genius” (as termed by Pope John Paul II) within each young woman, fostering the growth of the fruits of the Spirit- love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self- control. Our desire and prayer is that the development of these virtues and our solid academic coursework will guide our young women spiritually, personally, and academically, into a future prepared exclusively for them by God.
St. Catherine of Siena Academy is the first all-girls Catholic high school to open in fifty years! We move ahead realizing that the future holds great possibilities for authentic Catholic education for young women. We invite you to come and see for yourself the opportunities available through SCA.
God Bless You,
Mrs. Kathy Tarnacki
