2023 Michigan Thespian Festival
The Michigan Thespian Festival
Fifteen thespians from SCA Troupe 8342 traveled to Lansing to participate in the Michigan Thespian Festival on December 8 and 9. The weekend boasts an educational component as well as a competitive element (individuals and groups competing for a “score"), and for seniors, the weekend culminates in the offering of significant college scholarships.
There were over 50 dramatic arts workshops offered, ranging from dance classes taught by Broadway artists to musical theater tips and tricks as well as courses for stage management and all things technical. In essence, everyone benefitted from the experience.
The drama Stars auditioned for scholarships, were adjudicated (evaluated objectively, directly, and with detailed criticism) on their selected performances, and participated in Tech Olympics (the coveted techie competition with over 60 students participating). A highlight of their day on Friday was attending Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Lansing, celebrating the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and singing so beautifully, particularly the Latin hymns and prayers, that mass-goers gave them warm smiles.
When the curtain fell after the final performances, the Stars evaluated their weekend, noting that they performed amazingly well, made new friends, and had the time of their lives!
