Our faculty undergo professional development at Phillips Exeter Academy to bring this transformative teaching style to life, and the success of this approach has inspired us to enhance our classrooms with flexible, adaptable furniture to support diverse learning activities.

Our HOSA students gained hands-on experience during a confidential Mass Casualty Drill at Henry Ford Providence Hospital, tackling every challenge with professionalism and poise. At St. Catherine of Siena Academy, we are all about helping young women grow in faith, leadership, and service through real-world, career-focused opportunities.

Our SCA students recently attended three more Detroit Economic Club (DEC) events, featuring speakers MSNBC Chief Correspondent Ali Velshi, former U.S. President Donald J. Trump, and the presidents of Michigan’s top universities. These experiences provided insights into social justice, economic policy, and the impact of university research on Michigan’s industries. Through opportunities like these, our students continue to grow as future leaders, gaining real-world knowledge outside the classroom.

The inaugural Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at St. Catherine of Siena Academy on September 20 honored four outstanding alumnae: Katie Grose '19, Maddie Campagna '20, Alexa Rastigue '19, and Gabrielle Green '18. These accomplished women, who excelled in athletics and academics, reflected on the vital role SCA played in shaping their success. On Thursday, May 2nd, the St. Catherine Academy community gathered to partake in the longstanding custom of the May Crowning. Representatives from each class, chosen by their peers for embodying Mary’s virtues, participate in the ceremony. May we aspire to emulate Mary's virtues: humility, lively faith, obedience, charity, patience, and wisdom, and seek her intercession to guide us along this noble path to feminine holiness. SCA is happy to offer opportunities to go on a mission trip as a part of our curriculum, allowing our students to explore and cultivate their feminine genius while serving communities in need.

St. Catherine of Siena Academy was happy to welcome the the Class of 2025 members into the National Honor Society (NHS). The ceremony held on March 7 not only celebrated their academic accomplishments but also highlighted their embodiment of the NHS's pillars: Leadership, Scholarship, Service, and Character.

Celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we spotlight the achievements of the Constellations, our SCA robotics team! Through their participation in the FIRST Robotics Competition, they showcase innovation and embody the spirit of sisterhood and leadership. As they gear up for their upcoming Robot Reveal and competitions, let's commend their dedication and inspire future generations to pursue STEM fields with passion and resilience.

Congratulations to Freshman, Veronica DiFranco, who has been announced as one of the ten finalists and a recipient of a $1,000 scholarship in the 8th annual Alliance Catholic Foundation Live It. Show It. Share It. contest. The contest required students to propose an apparel item featuring an inspiring message from the Archdiocese of Detroit's initiative to Unleash the Gospel. Veronica's winning design incorporates John 1:5 delivering the message of overcoming darkness with God's light. She and other winners were honored at the Catholic Schools Week Mass on February 1.

St. Catherine of Siena Academy senior, Grace Lancaster, achieved the prestigious Brigadier General Billy Mitchell Award on January 23, 2024, becoming a Cadet Second Lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol, USAF Auxiliary, Livonia Thunderbolt Composite Squadron. This recognition, granted to the top 15% of CAP cadets globally, marks Grace as the first young woman in her squadron to receive the award since 2018. Grace has excelled in leadership, fitness, aerospace, and character development, holding a student pilot certificate with over 50 flight hours and aspiring to attain her private pilot license. Congratulations, Grace, on your remarkable achievements!

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, established in 1963, runs from January 18 to January 25. This year's theme, "You shall love the Lord your God… and your neighbor as yourself" (Luke 10:27), underscores the connection between love for God and love for neighbors. It urges reflection on practicing charity, mercy, justice, and unity globally, amidst national and international security crises. Enjoy this reflection by Ms. Hehs.

The following reflection by Principal Hehs traces the progression from Advent to Christmas, then to the Epiphany and Baptism of Jesus, marking the conclusion of the Christmas Season. Emphasizing the significance of the Epiphany, it highlights Christ's manifestation through events like the visit from the Magi and the Baptism of the Lord. Exploring the cultural traditions of Three Kings Day in Mexico, Principal Hehs connects the celebration to the broader themes of Christ's incarnation and love for all, as demonstrated through His baptism.

St. Catherine of Siena Academy celebrated a successful showing at HOSA regionals, with 25 out of 48 students qualifying for states, including standout performances from the EMT team and freshmen finalists. Notable achievements included a second regional gold for the EMT team, a silver for senior Lauren Proper, and a record-breaking five freshmen finalists. The impressive results set the stage for the upcoming state competition in Traverse City from April 17-20.

Fifteen thespians from SCA Troupe 8342 had an enriching experience at the Michigan Thespian Festival in Lansing, where they engaged in educational workshops, auditioned for scholarships, and participated in the Tech Olympics. The troupe excelled in various categories, including Small Group Acting, Monologue Acting, Solo Musical Theater, and Tech Olympics, earning accolades and a notable college scholarship offer of $314,000.00 for student Bryce Lang.

The Feast of St. Nicholas, or Mikulás, holds a special place in my heart as it brings cherished family traditions. Originating from central European customs, my siblings and I celebrated by placing polished shoes outside our doors, hoping for a visit from St. Nicholas. Accompanied by the unique tradition of Krampusz and virgács, the feast allows us to refocus on Jesus and find a balance between the commercialization of Christmas and the spiritual preparations of Advent. St. Nicholas, a tender-hearted bishop, inspires us to follow his example of giving to others, prompting reflection on what gifts we can share for the betterment of others during this Advent season.

The Ablaze Retreat at SCA gave our seniors a much-needed pause from the hectic senior year. Guided by Debbie Herbeck and the Be Love Revolution team, the retreat allowed our young women to delve into their faith, disconnect from the external noise, and strengthen their connection with the Lord, making a lasting impact on their spiritual journey.

Gianna Molla Club: A Beacon of Light! We want to thank the Gianna Molla Club for consistently demonstrating its dedication to the pro-life movement. Meeting every Tuesday during lunch, this club has opened its arms to all students, fostering a space for learning, sharing, and embracing the values of life. The club's commitment to raising awareness and its tireless efforts to bring in inspirational speakers is a testament to their dedication.

On May 11, 2023, Riley Gaines spoke to St. Catherine Academy students about her relentless pursuit of truth and fairness for all female athletes.

Out of this day twenty-two years ago came a reminder that we are a people of faith not fear. There are 31 Bible verses about “fear”, and through them, we are promised that God walks with the faithful at all times. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord, your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

As we prepare for the traditional BBQ and day of rest that Labor Day provides, it is noteworthy for us to reflect on work done in the SCA during these first four weeks of the 2023-2024 school year. The Administrative Team committed themselves to the school year long before the first teacher or student walked back into the building. On Monday, August 7, the faculty was welcomed back to school to begin the great work of educating young women to fulfill their feminine genius – their unique dignity, identity, and gifts as women created in the image of God.
