Alliance Catholic Foundation “Live It. Show It. Share It.” Contest Winner

For the fifth consecutive year, we are proud to announce that one of the ten finalists in the 8th annual Alliance Catholic Foundation Live It. Show It. Share It. scholarship contest was from SCA. We congratulate freshman Veronica DiFranco as a recipient of one of the $1,000 finalist scholarships.

Students were asked to come up with an idea for an apparel item that features a message from the AOD’s effort to Unleash the Gospel that inspires them and that they would be proud to wear.

The inspiring message that Veronica selected was John 1:5 – The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

For her apparel, Veronica selected a long-sleeved, soft, high-quality navy-blue t-shirt. “On the front breast pocket, I envision a simple understated white line in the shape of waves. Right underneath the waves, in small font, it says, ‘John 1:5.’ Centered on the back, is a simple image of my favorite lighthouse drawn in the same simple outline. Simple yellow lines, representing the light, HIS light, emerge from the windows at the top of the lighthouse. Above the graphic on the back are the words, ‘The light shines in the darkness…’ Below the graphic are the words ‘… and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5’”

Veronica provided a reflection on why she selected John 1:5. She wrote that the reading, “brings to mind an image of my favorite lighthouse with bright light surrounding the top. It’s an inspirational reminder that God can easily overcome any darkness. He has, after all, defeated death.”

Veronica and the other winners were honored at the Catholic Schools Week Mass on Thursday, February 1. Congratulations!
