EPOCH Week 2025: Learning, Serving, and Growing Beyond the Classroom
At St. Catherine of Siena Academy, learning extends far beyond textbooks and tests. EPOCH Week is one of the most anticipated weeks of the year—a time for experiential learning, exploration, and service. It’s a chance for our students to step outside the classroom, discover their gifts, and give back to the community.
This year’s EPOCH Week was especially meaningful as it coincided with Lent—a season of reflection and giving. Our students embraced the spirit of service, participating in a wide range of impactful activities across Michigan. Here’s a look at some of the incredible experiences our girls took part in:
Service and Outreach
- Forgotten Harvest – Students helped fight food insecurity by sorting and distributing food at this Oak Park-based nonprofit.
- Gleaners – At the Taylor food distribution center, students worked together to organize and package food for families in need.
- Cass Community Social Services – Students rolled up their sleeves to assist with physical tasks to support this Detroit-based nonprofit.
- Mother and Unborn Baby Care – Students sorted baby items and clothing to help mothers and families in need.
- Flint Mission Trip – Led by Sr. Mary Ann, students prepared and served lunch at St. Mary parish for a women’s Bible study group and connected with Sr. Rachel, who shared the story behind the Icon of Our Lady.

Faith and Culture
- Journey with the Saints – Students toured The Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, deepening their understanding of the lives of the saints.
- Chaldean Heritage Center – Students attended Mass at St. Thomas and enjoyed a tour of the Chaldean Heritage Center, led by Mary Roumayah, the center’s founder. Lunch at Shenandoah Country Club was a special highlight.

Art and Education
- Madonna University – 21 girls attended Mass at Madonna University, with four of our students proudly serving at the altar.
- Detroit Institute of Art – Students explored one of Detroit’s cultural gems, discovering inspiration through art and history.
- Fleece and Thank You – Students crafted blankets to support children facing extended hospital stays.

Thank you, SCA STARS, for stepping up, serving with heart, and embracing the call to live out your faith through action. EPOCH Week 2025 was a true testament to the power of experiential learning—and we can’t wait to see how you continue to shine in the future!
