Live Purple. Give Gold.

April 29, 2023
A celebration honoring Fr. Richard Elmer, the Founders, the Pioneers, and those who made it financially possible for St. Catherine of Siena Academy.

Live Purple.

Purple, as all colors, is full of symbolism, both for the Church and for St. Catherine of Siena Academy. The Church takes on the color purple for Lent, for repentance and solemnity. The deep dark richness of purple invites us to consider the sacrifices Jesus suffered for us. For SCA, the purple pays tribute to the accent color of the legion of Bishops who serve the Pope. Purple has always been the color of royalty since historically purple dye was the most labor-intensive color to obtain. But we are not the royalty – Jesus is.

Give Gold.

Giving to an endowment, secures the future of SCA.
An endowment is a donation given to the school which is invested in and continues to grow every year. Contributions to endowment are preserved as principal, and the school directs part of the assets to its operating budget every year. The Fr. Elmer Endowment is invested with Ave Maria Mutual Funds. Their commitment to Morally Responsible Investing helps show our young women that Catholic values can be lived in all aspects of their lives, most especially investing.

Our Story

Fr. Elmer believed that there was such a great need for an all-girls school. One that offered two sacraments a day because he understood the long-lasting effects of receiving daily communion and the opportunity for confession. He understood the value of what SCA could become and more importantly, help get these young girls to heaven. Fr. Elmer’s family knew his love and passion for SCA and after his death on November 4, 2021, they were called to continue his legacy to ensure that every girl, regardless of financial circumstances, could attend SCA.

A donation of $1,000 reserves a seat at the Live Purple, Give Gold celebration. Make a gift and reserve your spot today.

How can I help?

Our long-term goal is to grow the endowment fund to be big enough where the withdrawal would be equal to the amount of tuition for our students. The healthier the endowment is, the more secure our future will be. This year, we are thanking everyone who donates a minimum of $1,000 with a seat at our celebration honoring Fr. Elmer, the Founders, the Pioneers, and those who made it financially possible for St. Catherine of Siena Academy…including you. Thank you.

The Celebration

Why April 29? It’s the feast of our patron, Saint Catherine of Siena. In addition, just a few days later, on May 3, Fr. Elmer will be celebrating his 95th heavenly birthday.

The celebration takes place at St. Catherine of Siena Academy.

Dinner will be prepared by renowned Chef James Rigato, owner of Mabel Gray. Chef James has appeared on season 12 of Top Chef and Uncharted with Gordon Ramsey. He is an advocate for all things Michigan and is a leader in Detroit’s culinary scene renaissance. Rigato opened Mabel Gray in a small coney-style diner in Hazel Park. His sophisticated yet approachable menu aims to delight and nurture guests. Mabel Gray continues to earn awards in praise, most notably, Detroit Free Press “Restaurant of the Year” and James Beard’s “Best New Restaurant”. Chef James’ six course meal will be paired perfectly with hand selected wine.

“This high school experience is like none other you can get anywhere. There is joy and comradery and the girls are happy and excel. They are being supported and encouraged by staff. You can watch a girl come in who had a bad experience elsewhere, bloom here and become a different girl in a short time. Can’t say enough good about it. Thank God the founders had this vision and followed through with it. Well needed and we are very thankful!”

SCA Parent

“The school lives up to their mission statement by unlocking the feminine genius in the girls who go there and providing us with the opportunity to discover who we are meant to be.”

“I loved every minute at St. Catherine! The friends I made there will always be a part of my family. This school taught me how to be a strong, intelligent, independent woman who is strong in her faith. I am blessed to say I got to experience SCA.”

“[Teachers] care about the success of each student. They come early to help students and stay after school if necessary. They are a super dedicated faculty.”

SCA Parent

You receive a spiritual hug when you walk through the door at St. Catherine of Siena Academy. Christ is at the center and He is opening up His arms saying “these are your friends, this is your family.” – Erika, SCA Alumnae

Erika

“An excellent school that brings the girls together more like sisters rather than friends.”

Zina

“As a graduate of this school, I can attest to not only the strong education I received from SCA but also the strong foundation I was given in which I could build my own faith upon. I felt fully prepared for the ‘real world’ both academically and spiritually.”

MaryKatherine

“An excellent community for families that want to stay involved! Everyone has a different opinion and all students, staff, and faculty are respectful of it. I have never been in an environment that was so inviting and welcoming. It is easy to find a home in this school because the staff genuinely care about you and want you to succeed. It really is a beautiful place and a great experience. I am very lucky to have gone through high school there.”
